What is Saved By Music Foundation?

Saved By Music Foundation is a non-profit organisation (NGO) in Mbale, Eastern Uganda. Founded in 2009 by Kyewalyanga Fredrick, it rescues street children and vulnerable youth and transforms their lives through music education, schooling, skills training, and community support. It is home to the Elgon Youth Brass Band and the Koona Cultural Troupe.

100% of donations reach the children in Mbale, Uganda. Funds cover shelter, meals, school fees, healthcare, bedding, and music instruments and training.

How much does it cost to sponsor a child?

Child sponsorship starts at $30 per month, which covers one child's school fees, materials, meals, bedding, and healthcare. Sponsors receive updates on the child's progress. A $10/month Supporter tier provides meals and basic care, and a $100/month Patron tier funds full programme and music support.

How can I volunteer with Saved By Music Foundation?

Apply through the Volunteer page on this website. Volunteer roles include music and arts teaching, education and literacy, health and child care, events and outreach, infrastructure and skills, and digital and communications. Freddie personally responds to applications within 48 hours.

Can I donate musical instruments?

Yes. Brass instruments, keyboards, and drums — new or gently used — are welcome. Contact Freddie on WhatsApp at +256 774 697 395 to arrange shipping or collection.

What is the Elgon Youth Brass Band?

The Elgon Youth Brass Band is the foundation's brass band, made up of children and youth in the programme. Performing has taken members from sleeping on pavements to performing on stage, and the band is central to the foundation's music education work.
